Brother Ox 04:06
BROTHER OX Under the gray, gray sky Paralyzed and deathly still Cast away from the legion So fuck your king of the hill How it feels to watch from afar And pretend I’m still alive Give no pity nor sorrow And no regrets, with no goodbye Let me die a poor man with no peace I never wanted to hear your voice now Don’t tell me what ya think Take your advice, fuck off, and good night And never ever test me, why? I’m busy digging this hole, my grave now I’m buried down the line Little pawn making moves for the queen You suck on everyone in between When they sweep all them pieces away Well now, well who are you today? Just let me die a poor man with no peace I never wanted to hear your voice now Don’t tell me what ya think Take your advice, fuck off, and good night And never ever test me, why? I’m busy digging this hole my grave now I’m buried down the line Just dig where I lie Under the gray, gray sky You beg and lie to feed your face You wanna poison me slow, now you bury me I won’t wear your disguise, now you bury me

Best that you take off that tin foil, my friend I recommend you ball it up, and shove it right up your ass Shut down your blog, you’re a mime Not a free thinking man Don’t get me wrong, but I don’t trust you fucks Like I don’t trust “them” Age of outrage, cry for change, stop the fuss Never been an honest one above us

BACK OF THE YARDS (COMPANY TIME) In the back of the yards, heard they got em one WIth them robot bombs, America Handed some a silver spoon and a golden gun They stole you an iron lung I can hear all the metal in your spine It’s grinding down on company time Got them bruises that profit the ones Know it hurts but don’t feel it Always mouthing your thanks to a god Made your bed but don’t clean it If they sold a suicide with a smile, well you’d need it Numbers up motherfucker, good bye What you earned, watch em steal it If they sold a suicide that’s in style, well you’d buy Kinda strange how there’s always a pill But it’s never the cure Ain’t it strange how they tell ya to beg for the light there Beyond that door And then when it’s slammed in your face, they stop ya to say Ya gotta pay the going rate Been chasing ghosts in your head my friend, we’ve got Little time for that Buy your hole in the ground for when the devil comes around Gotta find a way to see what we’re looking at We’ve got no time for that All the daylight spent in the house of dread They got ya folding up All the nights you spent drowning in your head They got ya cold enough?

A GOOD DAY FOR THE HAWK My mama told me when I was a boy, son Cool that ambition and wait your turn Do unto others and share all your bread, boy God only loves a bowing head Threw that shit away Only victims wait A good day, the hawk descends My father worked to his bones like a fool Paid his tuition at midnight school Corporate wage gave him all that he had A crumbling box to live out his end Threw that shit away Cause it felt like death A good day, the hawk descends Put your tools away No one feels your pain A good day, the hawk descends In the dark I saw my master Counting his gold in the devil’s vault He said be glad for what I hand ya I took his head and my change, a good day A good day for the hawk Now ya say I ain’t no moral man Who wrote the book that always tells ya no? Ya said you are aren’t sure, some council of old Ya never met em but they claimed your soul Never beg to be saved, take for yourself Throw your cross away And your creed of shame A good day, the hawk descends We all know that you nice guys can’t get off We all know that them top boys, they prey on us all Said ya think you can change it, I say give it time Spread your hope and your fears, well baby I’ll get mine Baby I’ll get mine

HAMMER ON MY BONES Stumbling down ole hollow way The streets so quiet despite the rain Caught that cold, best lay up inside Scrounge up a round before I die Gold label taught me how to feel With promises that I will never see Well I should’ve stolen one more kiss Black tooth gave me away Far down, swallow and drown The bonfire in the home of the gutted hound Layman on layoff, broke miner’s cough Can’t quite recall where I’ve fallen, no Gold label taught me how to feel With promises that I will never see Well I should’ve stolen one more kiss Black noose gave me away Just another hammer on my bones Just a couple nails inside my soul The truth inside my home now That I was never home, nah Never wanted anything Never wanted you An empty crib in an empty room One miscarriage now two Said it was my fault, and I’m just a dog With my broken bones, fast getting old Apart so the story goes Ya left me cause I lose, left me cause I’m bruised Just another hammer on my bones Just a couple nails inside my soul Inside my soul, the pity grows For self, for god, for love Lord I couldn’t get enough of you And I remember the good times, sweet embrace and sunshine Nectar from a potent vine I’d give it all, but she gave it up, and gave it to another man Traded in my aching back, for fast times That never last Just another hammer on my bones Just a couple nails inside my soul As I slip into the black within, I know That door ain’t opening again

CONCRETE SWAN DIVE Stranded here in the liquor line Watching ya do that slide Down a pole that every jack with his club Is so jealous of Balls deep in impending doom Lost little girls they swoon Hell’s gate through the back door Know what I’m heading for Tonic, pills in an empty gut Worn tread in the deepest rut Hollow days and some empty nights Melting hope in the neon light Fuck the future my end is near Tastes like bourbon and fear Face filled with them jagged lines Wrote my note, no suicide You can’t play with them kings and queens You can’t relive your last scene I been beat, I been played, I get drunk til it’s pain But it’s not enough Ya said it’s all my fault All these god damn distractions Got us falling in backwards I don’t need your distractions Swan dive, head first Every new generation sounds like overweight children Crying in court for their candy, their rights, take it all Kneeling down at a judges feet Sucking on that collective tit And the message in western lands Be ashamed if you be a man After all, you are drowning in privilege The privilege to labor and pay To be silent against what you say Take your shit and get out of my way All your god damn distractions Got us falling in backwards I don’t need your distractions Swan dive, head first Fuck you and your objections Swan dive, head first

Storyteller 03:54
STORYTELLER I’m half awake, lace my boots and wash my face Conversing with myself Mirror man, he said, look it here, you’re halfway dead Who the hell are you lookin at? I’m at a loss, can’t recount the days far gone Can’t handle going back Drop your guard and it sucks you in Nah, but ya can’t feel safe, never again Crawl onward, turn around, but it’s all gone Crawl forward, never turn your… Platinum and gold, don’t mean shit out in the cold Where the blind men cry for bread Nothing built to last, smoke and mirrors, dust and ash Living slow but die so fast I had my doubts, could’ve been, but I’m not somehow Cold showers raining down Find your place and then just give in What if there was no place, no solace? Crawl onward, turn around, but it’s all gone Crawl onward, never turn your back Thousands of miles, slow footsteps And the blank smiles Had this time alone, but I’m sorry now I can’t go home I’ve been so wrong, know I’ve been Know I’ve been so wrong I’ve been so wrong

Red Collar 04:55
RED COLLAR Ain’t no rungs to climb Born into a hole beneath the golden streets I never feel the cold nights Ain’t no roots to freeze And I saw you cry, only this one time You were sound asleep, dead inside a lullaby Now you forgot the pride your father never gave ya Said you been down too low, I guess I can’t blame ya You shook the hell out of me Said you want more, no Cause you know I never gave a fuck, no How many vials ya… Bleed for me, you tired little man Ain’t no man in a black suit or a white coat gonna save ya Praying for a gentle death, I guess I can’t blame ya You shook the hell out of me Said you want more, no Cause you know I never gave a fuck, no How many vials ya bleed Hear the vermin gather round Beggars feast, now choke it down When I name that price to pay All you traitors will betray Red collar lies, they told me I was home Do we live for the gods of the state? Do we die for the gods of the state? My friend, attend your wake

about

Brother Ox Shady Grove, Pennsylvania

Brother Ox was a band with an idea behind it. Labor, societal pressure, anguish of the common man: listen to the first album, you hear these themes. This was a good thing.

But it was also an excuse to hide.

Volume 2 is full of characters you know in your personal experience, and some you haven't met yet. It's the same for us. Is it rock or something worse? Are we traitors? To what cause? None.
